About being dumb but act clever
By katak | January 25, 2008
It was probably one of those rare occasions that I had to blew my top and talk serious to one of the new onsites.
Because when you are a professional in any career, you are suppose to be a specialist in that field.
If you’re a teacher and you can’t understand or solve a particular question, its already creating a bad impression from the student point of view. What’s worse is if THE STUDENT themselves showed you how to solve the issue.
Similarly, if you’re an IT professional, you ARE suppose to be a TOP NOTCH in your own area. Now I don’t mean to expect a renaissance man in the making here. Information Technology is a very broad subject and have many branches that encompasses different context in the field.
But if you are from the customer service sector and you are being trained to repair PCs, then for GOODNESS SAKE, please try to pull it off gracefully. Don’t show or even tell the customer that you are clueless and have no idea on how to resolve the issue. What’s worse is when the customer HAVE TO TELL you on what should be done to resolve the issue.
Perhaps there is some truth to the saying, those who ask are a fool for 5 minutes but those who don’t ask are a dumbass / bloke fool forever.
If you choose to keep quiet and expect things to be drop and spoonfeed to your mouth directly, I am sorry to tell you that life over in this project is not as bright as you expect it to be.
To each his own.
