the woody allen quote about love

I have to admit. I never was a fan of Woody Allen. Among the throngs of films that he have acted, directed or produced, I have seen only one. And that was also because Scarlett Johansson was in the film. 🙂

However, there was 1 quote from him that I remembered till this day. That quote stirred up my thoughts from the moment I first heard about it several years back and brought upon interesting discussions among my circle of friends, including my?then girlfriend turn fiancee turn?wife.

This is the quote from Woody Allen.

?To love is to suffer.. to avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy then is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness.

In order to understand its full meaning,?one is required?to sit calmly and let the statement sink in first.

This entry, or rather the quote, is meant for that tiny visitor out there who wishes to seek some answers to life’s most difficult question perhaps ?

How can you decide that you’re not an Allen fan if you’ve only watched one movie? Sounds like you take your queues from other people on what it is you like or do not like. Very sad.

Yes Byron,

It is because of the fact that I have only seen 1 movie from Woody Allen which makes me admit that I am NOT fan. Because a fan would probably watch most, if not all of his movies, isn’t it ?

I think what woody allen ment was love is not easy. Its filled with all the things that we dont wish in life. But then again what’s a life if it doesnt have its ups and downs. It would be very boring.wont it? Every thing has its dark side. So does love. Even in all that suffery, u will always find a feeling of a weird happiness that cant be found anywhere else.

My favourite Woody Allen quote: “I do not want to be immortalized for my work. I want to be immortalized for not dieing.”
